Biography

Daniel Bates, a native of Elmira, NY, is currently a Resident Artist with Shreveport Opera. This season he will be performing Nanki-poo in The Mikado, and Pang in Turandot, and recently covered Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore. Daniel was recently a Regional Finalist in the Metropolitan Operas National Council Auditions. This coming summer, Daniel will be a member of the Apprentice Artists Program with Santa Fe Opera and in the summer of 2013, he was a Studio Artist with Opera Saratoga. Daniel’s roles include Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi, Lurcanio in Ariodante, Laurie in Little Women, Basilio in Le Nozze di Figaro, The Witch in Hansel and Gretel, Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, Ferrando in Così fan tutte, Ralph Rackstraw in H.M.S Pinafore, Orfeo in L’Orfeo by Monteverdi, the Drunkard in the collegiate premiere of The Little Prince by Rachel Portman, and Le Comte Barigoule in Cendrillion. In the summer of 2012, Daniel was a Festival Artist with Utah Festival Opera where he performed in productions of Tosca, Faust, and Kiss Me Kate, and covered The Evangelist in Bach’s St. Matthew Passion. In the summer of 2010, he performed as a soloist for DCINY at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fischer Hall. Daniel recently completed his Master’s Degree at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Daniel also holds a B.M. in Vocal Performance from Ithaca College, where he studied with Dr. Brad Hougham. Daniel studies with Catherine Cook.
